IESL - UIY Competiton
2025

Organized by IESL, this competition empowers engineering students to showcase creativity and technical skills, developing innovative solutions that address practical, real-world challenges.

Project: GREENGUARD LITE

A device fills a critical gap with an affordable solution for communities where air quality monitoring is out of reach.

Sustainability Process Electronics Environmental Engineering SDG Goals

Competition Journey

Our journey in the UIY competition, organized by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), has been an inspiring experience. It challenged us to combine creativity and technical expertise to address real-world issues. Through this platform, we developed our affordable air quality monitoring device, striving to empower communities and promote healthier living environments.

GREENGUARD LITE

This device fills a critical gap with an affordable solution for communities where air quality monitoring is out of reach. Our aim is empowering individuals to take immediate actions to help preventing a range of health issues from simple headaches to serious illnesses.

Technical Challenges

Designing a low-cost yet accurate sensor calibration system was a key challenge. Balancing affordability with precision required implementing advanced algorithms to filter noise, ensuring reliable air quality measurements in diverse environments.

IESE GRANT SCHEME Competition

A seed funding event by University of Moratuwa, helping engineering students turn startup dreams into reality, supporting innovative ventures from early ideas to potential unicorn businesses.

Project: Smart Waste Bin

A design of smart waste bin to keep waste dry, odor-free, and hassle-free using our knowledge of humidification and airflow control.

3D Design Environmental Engineering Process Engineering Team Leadership

Competition Journey

The IESE Grant Scheme competition at the University of Moratuwa was a remarkable platform that encouraged us to transform our innovative idea into a viable product. Competing among talented peers, we showcased the Smart Waste Bin, gaining valuable feedback and mentorship. This journey strengthened our vision to create sustainable, user-friendly solutions for real-world waste management.

Smart Food Waste Bin

We at Chemovate designed the Smart Waste Bin to keep waste dry, odor-free, and hassle-free. Using our knowledge of humidification and airflow control, we created a system that extends waste storage time while collecting moisture efficiently. We brought our concept to life with Blender, focusing on both function and sleek, modern design. Ideal for homes, cafes, and institutions that care about hygiene and smart living.

Technical Challenges

Designing the Smart Waste Bin presented several challenges. Maintaining waste in a dry, odor-free state required precise airflow control and effective humidification management. Balancing efficiency with affordability was another hurdle, ensuring the system worked reliably without overcomplicating the design. Overcoming these challenges enhanced our problem-solving skills and shaped a more practical, scalable solution.

Idealize Competition
2023

Out of 300+ teams, we made it to the Top 20 semifinals - a huge achievement for us. This journey was challenging but rewarding, and I'm grateful to have led such a passionate and talented group.

Project: Dora Entertainment App

An entertainment app that users can listen to songs, watch shorts, and chat with others. It also includes AI chat and an AI image assistant.

Java Kotlin Firebase Android Development

Competition Journey

The Idealize Competition was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my academic career. Starting with over 300 teams from universities across the country, we had to demonstrate not just technical skills, but also innovation, teamwork, and the ability to solve real-world problems. The competition spanned several months with multiple elimination rounds, each more demanding than the last.

Dora App Development

As part of our work, we built 'Dora', an entertainment app that users can listen to songs, watch shorts, and chat with others. It also includes AI chat and an AI image assistant. We developed it using Java, Kotlin, and Firebase. The app features a modern Material Design interface, real-time messaging capabilities, and integrated AI services for enhanced user experience.

Technical Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was integrating multiple services seamlessly - music streaming, video playback, real-time chat, and AI functionality. We had to optimize for performance while maintaining a smooth user experience. The AI integration required extensive research and implementation of machine learning models for both chat and image processing features.
